Voucher Bill, HB 93 Coming Up for Vote in the Idaho Senate Next Week

If you haven’t already heard, HB 93, the parental choice tax credit bill (basically a universal school voucher), is coming up for a vote in the Senate early in the week of 2/16/25. Please take the time to send a quick email to Senator Christy Zito asking to vote no on HB 93

Vouchers will drain funds from public schools–especially in rural communities. By eating into the state’s general fund, vouchers will reduce the funding available for public schools. In Idaho, rural communities will be especially harmed because the vast majority of private school students live in just four urban counties. 17 of Idaho’s rural counties have no private schools at all, and 9 rural counties have just one private school.

Vouchers are fiscally reckless and will explode Idaho’s budget. The annual cost of Arizona’s voucher program, originally estimated to be $65 million, skyrocketed to $332 million in just two years. Under pressure to balance the budget, the state slashed funding for critical projects including water infrastructure and highway repair
